The rugged and quite popular G-Shock 2100 series just got a metallic makeover. Casio recently debuted two new colorways, the GA-2100GB-1A and GA-2100SB-1A – one dipped in glossy gold and the other a matte metallic silver. They stand out, for sure. But beneath the fancy exteriors lie the same G-Shock guts that make the 2100 a modern classic. Here are some notes:

  • Two new colorways to the 2100 lineup – gold (G-Shock GA-2100GB-1A) and silver (G-Shock GA-2100SB-1A).
  • The watches feature a metallic vapor deposition on the dials along with either glossy or matte finishes.
  • They retain the slim 11.8 mm octagonal form of the original Casio GA-2100 “Casioak.”
  • Tough features include 200M water resistance, Carbon Core Guard shock protection, LED backlight.
  • The gold model has shiny black accents while the silver model uses matte black for a unique look.

Let’s take a closer look at the attention-grabbing GA-2100GB-1A and GA-2100SB-1A. Each model starts with the iconic octagonal silhouette of the original GA-2100. At just 11.8mm thick, the new 2100s retains a slimmed-down version of that distinctive shape mostly due to the Carbon Core Guard structure that enables a smaller case.

The new gold edition utilizes a black glossy finish on the bezel and band to contrast the shiny gold accents. It certainly stands out and might look awesome with some patent leather shoes and a gold belt buckle. Its dial features a subtle circular hairline pattern underneath the metallic gold vapor deposition coating. I love that Casio continued the metal styling to the thick indices. Those hour markers really stand out.

Meanwhile, the silver GA-2100SB-1A opts for a matte black bezel and band. Much more sleek and industrial. A black button-up shirt and a titanium ring would work wonders with this styling. That muted color palette really highlights the brushed silver finish on the dial. Along with the matte bezel, I’d say this is the model I’d buy from the new lineup.

Your typical useful features from G-Shock are all here, including hand shift capability to avoid dial obstruction, 5 alarms, 48-city world time, 1/100th stopwatch, and a bright double-LED backlight. Run by a CR2025 battery, these editions have a standard battery life of 2 years. At around $150 on Ebay these watches aren’t that expensive. However, the gold model seems to go for about $20 more.

Double-LED Super Illuminator on both watch face and digital display. Nice.
